Estimated Reading Time: 10 minutes

Guided Visualization into the Seventh Sephirah of the Tree of Life, Netzach

Florence Susan Harrison, A Birthday. 1910.

This guided meditation helps you connect with the magical image of the seventh sephirah of the qabalistic Tree of Life, Netzach. Use it as a personal practice to deepen your experience of emotions, awe, the muse, and your heart’s desire. Netzach, which means Victory, corresponds to the planet Venus. Its magical image is a beautiful naked woman. And its experience is the Vision of Beauty Triumphant. Read on to experience this guided visualization for yourself!

Overview of the Meditation Into the Magical Image of Netzach

This meditation can be done seated or lying down. Eyes are typically closed, but you can adjust as needed to get the most out of the experience. You might like to have an eye pillow or sleep mask for darkness, and a blanket or sweater to keep you warm.

This meditation uses your imagination to enter a scene and meet the character there. We’ll start in the familiar coffee shop, walk to the art gallery, find the statue of the magical image of Netzach, then transfer to the image’s location to experience what it has to offer.

Let’s begin.

Preparation

Come into a good meditation posture. If you are doing this meditation seated, sit toward the front of the chair with the spine straight, the chin tucked in slightly, and the feet flat on the floor. The feet can rest on a cushion if that’s more comfortable. Check in with your body and see if you need to make any adjustments for comfort. You’ll want to find a posture you can hold for the length of the meditation, which will be about 15-20 minutes.

Be aware of your body, how it feels, what’s supporting it, the space around you. Place your hands palm up in your lap, or by your side. Adjust as needed to be comfortable and allow for the best meditation experience.

Turn your awareness now to your breathing. Watch how the breath flows in and out of the body. How your breath connects your body to the space around it. Allow the breath to soften and deepen until you’re breathing deep down into your belly.

The Cafe: Our Rendezvous Point

In your mind’s eye, imagine or remember a favorite coffee or tea shop, someplace that you always feel welcome and comfortable, but can also sit quietly undisturbed. Imagine the scene as fully as you can. This cafe is our rendezvous spot and we’ll start and end the meditation here.

You’ve finished your drink and are looking around. You remember the art gallery you discovered not far from here, and eagerly head down the lane for a visit.

You find the almost-hidden, ivy-covered door.

Opening it, you enter into the gift shop. The person behind the register smiles and nods but doesn’t say anything.

The Gallery of Magical Images

Then you head through the wide archway that’s across from the entrance and enter the rotunda.

Around the outer edge of the rotunda are a series of statues. You look around, remembering your last visit, and curious about what will happen.

You notice the statues you saw the previous times you were here, the Magical Images of Malkuth, the young woman on the stone throne, and Yesod, the beautiful man very strong, and smile, remembering your experiences. Then you see the winged hermaphrodite and remember your excursion last time to the old library.

You turn, eyes exploring the room. A statue you haven’t noticed before catches your eye. It’s of a beautiful naked woman. She has a crown of roses.

You walk around the statue, noticing the material it’s made from, the size, its texture.

You wonder about her pose, and notice the surprising details that you find so beautiful. Who does she remind you of?

The Landscape of the Magical Image of Netzach

The lights flicker and you find yourself in an entirely different environment. It’s afternoon with a bright sun and blue sky. Rainclouds are off in the distance. It seems they have already passed this location, as it looks like it rained recently. You can smell that after-rain smell of clean air and wet dirt. You see a garden up ahead. In the distance is a wooded area and hills climbing into a mountain.

You arrive and find the most beautiful rose garden. It has a very formal layout, with paths and beautifully trimmed rose bushes. The scent of the roses after the rain is delicious. You breath it in deeply. How does it make you feel?

You hear a voice singing a pleasant melody. You wend your way toward the sound, but the rose garden is a bit of a maze and you find the paths keep leading you away from the sound. But you’re determined to find whoever’s singing. Soon you’re close again, and call out. A voice with the resonance and melody of bells answers and assures you that if you continue following the path you’ll find her.

Meeting the Magical Image of Netzach

Taking a final turn through the dark green leaves and deep red flowers, you arrive at the center and see the most beautiful woman seated on a bench in this open space at the center of the labyrinth. She has long, loose hair with a crown of roses. She wears a long, flowing white gown cinched at her waist with a wide belt made of gold.

Experiencing the Symbols of Netzach

Together the two of you walk through the garden. You marvel at the attention to detail in the design and execution of such a beautifully maintained space. She smiles.

Eventually she leads you around toward the outer edge of this labyrinthine enclosure. Together you exit the high, tightly trimmed rose bushes and enter a field of wildflowers. They are simple and colorful and unstructured compared to the more elaborate garden.

What goes through your mind as you appreciate the playful chaos of this field of flowers?

You come to a wood, dense and dark with trees in full leaf. It is cool and quiet, but as you adjust to this new territory, the sounds of birds filter through and you hear little animals scurrying in the undergrowth. A happy stream skips and tumbles through the trees.

As you and the woman follow the stream deeper into the woods, you notice the groundcover getting thicker–graceful, arched fronds with fan-shaped leaves. You ask her about them and she says they are adiantum: maidenhair ferns. She shares that there are many medicinal benefits of these plants.

The beautiful woman invites you to sit quietly with the plants. Their color reminds you of spring. You gaze at the delicate, almost invisible stems. Note the gentle arch of the fronds. Spend time contemplating the fan-shaped, notched leaves. The seeds on the undersides of the leaves. You notice the richness of the earth and the humidity in the air. You find yourself relaxing and breathing deeply in response to this beautiful and delicate plant.

The woman asks you what you learned about this plant. How do you respond?

Magical Power of Netzach: The Vision of Beauty Triumphant

She guides you deeper into the woods. You find yourself climbing a path along the edge of a rock face bordering the trees. The stream is now below you, but the adiantum climbs the cliff alongside you. You begin to hear white noise, like a powerful rushing river. The source of the stream? It grows louder as you approach. The path turns sharply, and the trees part to reveal a high, plunging waterfall.

Your body seems to freeze as you gaze at it in awe. At the same time, you are overcome with the desire to rush to this spectacular scene.

You move as close as you can. You look up at the height of the fall. Feel the mist in your face. See rainbows as the slanting sunlight refracts in the droplets.

The waterfall plunges into a deep pool and again you yearn to scramble down to it, to soak and swim.

You see the delicate adiantum climbing the rock walls around the falls. How slight and yet strong they are!

The garden you saw earlier, as beautiful and manicured as it was, now seems prim and proper in comparison to this natural wonder. The falls seem to call to you, to inspire you, part siren song, part muse that moves your soul.

You glance at the woman who shared this amazing place with you. She smiles and gestures, a invitation to explore. What do you do?

I’ll give you a minute to spend your time here however you’d like.

Returning to the Garden

Eventually the light is dimming and it’s time to leave. You and the woman with the crown of roses follow the stream back out of the woods, through the field of wildflowers, and back to the rose garden. You rest on a bench facing west at the outer edge of the labyrinth. Together you watch a glorious sunset over the distant mountains.

You glace over at the beautiful woman and her head is tilted up. You follow her gaze and see the most beautiful star, huge and bright and sparkling in the darkening sky. The old children’s rhyme of starlight, star bright comes to mind and you squeeze your eyes shut and make a wish.

You feel, perhaps for the first time, that you understand what your heart truly desires.

Returning Step by Step to the Rendezvous Point

When you open your eyes, your new friend is just a statue.

You are back in the gallery.

The whole thing felt so real, but at the same time you wonder if it was all in your imagination.

You look around the rotunda, then exit through the gift shop. The person behind the register nods and smiles.

You wander back to the cafe for sustenance and to contemplate this curious experience.

As you get comfortable in the cafe, in the special spot you always like to claim, and as you adjust back to the familiarity of this place you often visit, you feel you are ready to end the meditation.

Ending The Meditation

I’ll count backward from ten, and you can feel yourself returning to waking reality like walking down a spiral staircase. By the time I get to 1, you’ll be back in the here and now.

10…9…8… You become aware of the chair you’re sitting on.

7…6…5… You become aware of the space you’re in.

4…3…2…1 Welcome back! The meditation is now over.

Wiggle your fingers and toes. Stretch and take a deep breath. You are back to reality, but with greater insight and a new contact in the spirit world.

Take a moment to think through what happened. It might be useful to journal your experiences.

Anytime you’d like to visit the beautiful woman with the crown of roses, you can follow this simple process to connect with her.
