Got a new deck? Get it in a new bag quick with this 2-Hour Tarot Bag knitting pattern. This bag knits up lickety–split so you can get on to the business of reading the cards.

Chunky yarn and big needles are the secret to making this soft, dense bag come together in a flash.

The chevron lace detail adds panache, while on a practical level lets you peek at what deck lies within. A satin ribbon drawstring helps you sprint to the finish line, while pretty crow beads dangle for some extra flair. The bag has a tailored shape for a trim look, while the bottom is stitched for strength and security.

Skill Level: Easy

Finished Size: Approximately 5 1/4” wide by 6” tall (from bottom of bag to drawstring)—fits a standard size tarot deck

Gauge: 10.5 st = 4” in Stockinette.

3.5 oz (76 yds) Yarn Bee “Dream Spun”, 80% acrylic/20% Superwash Wool. Color shown: Wonderwild (above) and Delphinium (below).
2/3 yds 1/4” (6 mm) satin ribbon
6 crow beads in contrasting colors

I was able to knit two bags out of every 3.5 oz skein.

Supplies

US Size 11 (8.0 mm) DPNs
Tapestry Needle
Large-eye needle to thread the ribbon through the beads (if the tapestry needle is too large)

Casting On

CO 27 stitches, divide evenly between three DPNs, and join to knit in the round.

Drawstring Cuff
Rows 1-4: *k2, p1; rep from *
Row 5: *k2tog, yo, k1; repeat from *
Row 6-9: knit

Chevron Pattern
Row 10: *k4, yo, skpo, k3; rep from *
Row 11 and all odd rows: knit
Row 12: *k2, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, skpo, k2; rep from *
Row 14: *k1, k2tog, yo, k3, yo, skpo, k1; rep from *
Row 16: *k2tog, yo, k5, yo, skpo; rep from *
Rows 18-25 Repeat rows 10-17

Shaping the Bottom of the Bag
Row 26: k9, k2tog, k14, k2tog
Row 27: k9, k2tog, k12, k2tog
Row 28: k9, k2tog, k10, k2tog
Row 29: k9, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k3, k2tog

Finishing
Bind off and cut the yarn leaving an 18” tail.

Using the 18” tail, stitch the bottom together with an overhand stitch.

Weave in ends.

Drawstrings
Thread the ribbon through the eyelets, starting on the right side and threading it in and out of each eyelet until you’re back where you started.

Decorate the ends of the ribbon with crow beads, knotting under the beads.
