5. A Gorgeous Spiritual Center, not a Fluorescent Convention Center.
TarotCon Denver will be held at the Althea Center for Engaged Spirituality. This amazing historic building was built in 1898 as a church of Divine Science, one of the denominations of the New Thought movement. It was founded by three women healers and was at one time home to a spiritual press. The church continues to hold weekly services, as well as offering discussion groups, personal growth classes, a yoga studio and a black box theatre. With natural light pouring in the windows and a skylight in the main sanctuary, the environment for TarotCon Denver will be beaming with light, spiritual and natural.
4. Exploring the City, Not Holed up in the Hotel.
We have designed a unique opportunity to explore tarot while also exploring our beautiful urban setting. Sunday morning, while the church has their weekly service, we are encouraging all convention goers to join one of four groups for a mini tarot field trip—a visit to the Denver Art Museum (featuring one of the country’s most unique architectural structures, The Frederic C. Hamilton Building), the Denver Botanic Gardens (one of the first gardens in the country to emphasize native plants and to champion environmentally responsible practices),
the Denver Museum of Nature and Science (featuring the special exhibition: “Mythic Creatures: Dragons, Unicorns, and Mermaids”), or the 16th Street Mall (you just might run into a tarot reader busking for tips!). While you’re out and about, grab a snapshot of a tarot archetype as it appears out in the wild—we’ll put together all the photos to make a commemorative deck.
3. Ongoing Tarot Community, Not a Once-a-Year Assembly.
TarotCon Denver is hosted by the Denver Tarot Meetup, the largest tarot meetup in the country, offering eight meetups a month (not to mention special events!). In Denver, tarot is not a once-a-year thing. If you want to be inspired to come out of the tarot closet, take your work to the professional level, or anything in between, come to a place where in-person tarot community and camaraderie is the rule, not the exception. This is the place to talk tarot, not type tarot! Denver is also home to the largest psychic development meetup in the world and one of the largest metaphysics meetups in the world. Denver is an active community full of dedicated practitioners and professionals!
2. Expertise
Ok, most tarot conferences have tons of experts in the form of both speakers and participants. But just in case you think that Denver might be different because we’re new to the convention game, let me introduce you to our lineup. Mary K. Greer. Lon Milo DuQuette. Tali Goodwin. Marcus Katz. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Of the twenty presenters at TarotCon Denver, eleven have published TWO OR MORE books or decks (80% have published at least one book or deck). And some are astoundingly prolific.
Not that publication is the only indicator of expertise. Our presenters—local, regional, national and international—have both knowledge and know-how. Many are full-time tarot professionals, many have decades of experience, many are long-time tarot teachers, many run their own meetup group or tarot community. 60% have done (or will have done) one or more presentations for the Denver Tarot Meetup prior to TarotCon. They also blog, do public speaking, present at national and international conferences, and/or have weekly radio shows. Our presenters are well-rounded, integrating their tarot practice with backgrounds in spirituality, ritual, esotericism, astrology, qabalah, witchcraft, mythology, shamanism, herbalism, art, design, creative writing, music, theatre, and IT, to name just a few.
1. A Blissful Blend of Learning, Self-Development and Creativity!
With all the expertise I was talking about you just might think TarotCon Denver is the place to get your advanced degree in tarot. That’s not far from the truth! But the most in-depth knowledge and cutting edge research is not the only thing we’ll be offering. Want to cast a tarot spell? Wiccan Priestess Reverend Ivy will guide you through a magical working. Want to cut and paste and draw and design? Lisa de St. Croix’s “Tarot Visual Journaling” and Beth Seilonen’s “Make Your Own Lenormand” will get your creative juices flowing. Do you have a deck in the making? The experts on our Tarot Deck Creators Panel and here to give you the low-down on how to create, publish and market your deck.
Want to explore other symbol systems? Shaheen Miro’s tea leaf reading party and Carrie Paris’s “Collection Oracles and Charm Casting” will expand your symbolic vocabulary. Interested in ways that astrology and astronomy have intersected with tarot? Austin Coppock and Renna Shesso will show you how to connect the cards to the constellations. You can also meet your guides, receive messages, or turn readings into rituals. At most tarot conferences, you’ll come home with a notebook full of notes. At TarotCon Denver, you will have experiences that will transform your life!
